First Business Launched

Working as a sales manager in the commercial print industry at a time when pre-press work was costly, time-consuming, laborious, and really bad for the environment, Randal saw big change coming.  When a small company in Seattle (Aldus) released a desktop publishing application called PageMaker, he quit his job, borrowed $30,000, and started LaserDesktop which focused on pre-press workflow coupled with graphic design services.  It was a successful venture but within three years, the market was saturated, profit margins shrank, and it was time for the next venture.  The company sold its print customer base to A&A Commercial Press in 1991 so that it could focus on the database side of the business and direct mail marketing management.
